Louis Vanel  (Extra 330SC) wins the World Advanced Aerobatic Championship held at Dubnica nad Váhom airport (Slovakia) from August 7th to August 17th.

The French pilot shared the podium with his teammate Romain Fhal (Extra 330SC), who obtained the silver medal. The bronze medal was awarded to South African pilot, Patrick Davidson (SU-26M), who finished in the third place.

Vanel was one of the most regular pilots during the competition. He finished 2nd in the Known sequence, behind Romain Fahl. Nonetheless, he won both the free programme and the first free unknown. In the first unknown he flew an excellent sequence and he obtained a very high score. In spite of getting penalized 200 points for being too low in the second unknown, he had enough overall points to maintain his top position. In the end, the difference in points was very slight, less than one point between Vanel and Fhal.

The final results are shown below:

Vanel: 10341,19

Romain Fhal: 10340,37

Patrick Davidson: 10200,56

The French team, lead by Olivier Masurel, managed to keep the distance from the Russians and retained the Advanced World Champion team title.  The Russians got the silver medal and Ukraine the bronze.

Five of the six French pilots ranked in the top 10 of the championship with high marks. Therefore confirming that France is one of the countries with more prominent advanced pilots. We could state that France is breeding a generation of professional pilots who are willing to achieve the best positions in the Unlimited category in the near future.
